Toshiba hdd out of dell inspiron, home recovery...help!!!

July 15th, 2010, 10:47

Hey

I dropped my laptop around a year ago and as a result the hard drive stopped working. Got a new one off Dell (after alot of grief!) and seeing as I've been travelling for the last year I've only just got settled enough to think about trying to recover some of the stuff off it (I spent a whole week solid recording vinyl onto my laptop and converting to mp3 before coming away, hundreds of albums, a very lengthy process!).

Anyhows, I've hooked up the old drive to my laptop using a usb drive enclosure and I can view the drives (E & F) in My Computer, but they dont show any disc size and I can't acces them. The old hdd clicks whilst trying to access it, but whirrs like normal when I'm not.

Any advice on any avenues I should try to get at least some of the stuff off it..? The cost of hdd recovery is one thing, but also I'm in a very, very remote place atm so I can't actually get to any towns. My only internet acces is via dial-up which says alot!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..!

:O)

Well it seems your hard drive is a bit kanckered- but its good enough for a professional to recover the data for you using specialized data rebuilding and extracting devices. I see you from Austrailia.

Maybe somebody on this forum would recommend a place in Australia that can help you.

Hopefully! I'm actually from Cardiff but living in Oz at the moment, and it's bloody expensive in general over here. Cheapest data recovery quotes I've had come in around 500 pounds, not sure how that compares to the UK.

If anyone knows decent reasonably priced avenues to take though that'd be cool... 8)

Well I'm in Australia, so it'd mean sending it back, but that may be the cheapest option anyway! Cheers....

why would anybody refer a job to frank? He's an amateur and even he'd probably suggest you send it to a proper pro. Try contacting Eric from www.datarecovery.com.au
