my Lacie Rugged drive no longer is recognized by my computer

July 17th, 2010, 12:54

I have a 300 GB external Lacie Rugged drive for my Mac. when i was in the middle of correctly ejecting it the firewire 800 cord was accidentally hit and it caused my drive to suddenly be removed. when i went to plug it back in, the computer did not recognize it. a warning came up, "the disc you inserted was not readable by this computer". so i just ejected it.

i went to try repair disc in the first aid section of the disc utility but it said, "Filesystem verify or repair failed"

what is my next step? i would like to ty and do this myself because i dont have the cash to send it to a professional data retrieval place. it is not important work, so if i have to i will let it go, but it would be nice to be able to get my images off of this drive.

It seems logical problem like filesystem screwed.

1) Data not important ? repartition / reformat. Voila.
2) Data not important ? Try yourself some logical recovery stuff. If doesn't work, go back to 1)
3) A-ha.... data IS important : get pro help.

Well ,
Just Use a Logical Datarecovery software and voila

If the data is not critical to you you can try:

Disk Warrior - this program can rebuild the filesystem in many cases
Data Rescue 3 - this program can recover your lost data and has a free trial

Make sure that you know what you are doing, with Disk Warrior check the rebuilt directory before you allow it to make changes to your failed disk, with DR 3 make sure you recover the data to a different hard disk.1
