Hi to all. I have bought a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 one year ago and until now it works very good. Yesterday I'm using normally my pc for surfing and reading some documents, when suddenly I have heard some strange noise from inside hard disk and XP freeze. When I manually reboot, machine doesn't recognize the HD and so the Bios. Furthermore the strange noises from inside the hard disk keep on.
Somebody can tell me what can I do? How is it possible that all at once a good HD stop work?
Thanks in advance,
JJ

would you describe the noise as a "clicking" or a "buzzing" sound? Has the drive suffered any shock/trauma damage? i.e was it dropped or knocked?

Hi CK... the drive has not suffered any shocks. That's very strange... I have recorded the hd's noises in the wav file in attachment (rar). Can you give me some help?
The strange noises are not continuous but only at the drive starting...

ok, it is likely that the magnetic heads have failed in your drive. I'm a little concerned about the sound though. It may be the way you recorded it, but this drive may have suffered media damage.
Unfortunately, it's not a DIY case. The drive will need to be inspected by a professional to determine exactly what damage it has suffered.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's time to seek a pro if the data is valuable to you.
