Hello all, I'm new to this board.

I have a seagate hard disk drive (this is the disk of my girlfriend), and I need help to diagnose its problem ...

Model :ST13000333AS (1Tb, it was within a Lacie external USB box)
Firmware : LC15
Made in thailand

Story

It has already fallen on the ground, but it still works after that. Few days ago, my girlfriend was copying some photos, and then the computer turned to sleep mode. When she waked up her computer, it was too late ...

I've open the lacie box to extract the disk and to test it, symptoms :

- Strange sound, that you can hear here : http://dl.free.fr/getfile.pl?file=/9QCPkaRK. It seems that the motor doesn't start. I think it's not a motor sound or a head sound ... (the background noise is from my computer, not from the HDD)

- This sound lasts about 10 minutes, then stops. Then, I can go into the bios and the HDD is detected with 0Mb capacity.

Have you an idea of the problem ?

Did you not consider backup after this?

I think is very possibly damage to spindle motor. There has been lots of topics about this, if you take the time to search and read them you will see that it is not a simple case to solve.

Is the data important to you? This is not something you can solve yourself.

Thank for your answer :(

Unfortunately not, no bakcup. She didn't know that a drive must be handled with care.

On the hard drive, there were a lot of photo. So the data aren't critical but still have a sentimental value for her ...

I will search information about spindle motor on the board. It's important to say that the hard drive fallen some months ago, but it doesn't works anymore since only few days ago.

Seems spindle Seizure to me.
Unfortunately nothing you can do yourself.

Il me semble que l'axe de rotation est blocqué.
Rien que vous pouvez resoudre vous-même malheureusement.

Thank for your answer.

So, it's sure that replacing the PCB can't solve the problem ? This is a mechanical problem ?

I agree with Dobre. 'no' - waste of time. P.s. Dobrevjetser is near you : he can PROFESSIONALLY AND SAFELY diagnose the disk for sure.
