Is it possible to boot up an Alpine 7200.7, 1 platter / 2 heads with only Head0?

Depending on what is really "missing" there are ways to forcefully init an Alpine, but I should see what effectively happens... hoping media damage won't kill the head completely and make it definitively FUBAR. It's risky. Make a proper diagnose first.

Do you have pictures of the media damage and/or the log at startup or some other info ?

Well currently the problem is that there's read errors in the App code. I however think that Alpine's need both heads to init so I would need to modify the App code or something and then send the modified App code to the drive with a serial program of some sort.

I think that my best bet would be to build a hotswap clone and try to image Head0 that way. But I think that it will crap out once I do the hotswap. Seagates are kind of touchy with that kind of thing.

Do you know where the heads map offset is for Alpines?

This thing made me curious about one possibility - I will do an experiment on an Alpine.

In your case H0 is fine and H1...Hn have problems, right ?
