Hi

I have a WD WD2500BMVU 250GB 2.5" with integrated USB interface on the hard disk PCB. There is no regular SATA interface only USB interface on the hard disk PCB.

You can see the photo here in this thread
http://groups.google.com/group/datareco ... 69d82d6f6b

Is there any known SATA converter/interface for this kind of WD hard disks?

Cheers

you can convert your drive's PCB with (USB interface) with another PCB (SATA interface) if you have the skills to do this.

or you can seek for a pro to do this for you.

Can you please help me give some outline on the process?. I believe I can go from there if I get some directions.

Hi, i have the same request... (if the HDD is connected via USB no recognition takes place although the drive sounds are pretty nromal....) Does anyone have an idea, what the pins (see the photo above) are for...? I.e.: Is there anyone suggesting to connect these pins to....?
Is there a pro around ?

BR, Alex

Can you upload detailed photos of both sides of the PCB? AIUI, there is no SATA access available via the header, but you can tap into the SATA signals on the PCB. Whether this will help you at all is another matter entirely.

If you are using Windows, can you see the USB-SATA bridge chip with Microsoft's UVCView utility?

Answer: Nope: No change... The reaction (tested at several Windows versions (and 1 Linux) was the same like attaching a usb-led-light: Power is consumed, but no "intelligent" reaction

That doesn't help me much at all. :-(

However, the easiest thing to do is to hook up the USB cable to the drive. Then, with the other end of the cable disconnected from the computer, measure the resistance between each pin at the PC end and the corresponding pin on the component side of the drive's PCB.

If you have no continuity at either the Data+ or Data- pins, then this will explain the non-detection, in which case a simple soldering touch-up may get you going again.

If the above is OK, then your next step would be to determine whether the USB-SATA bridge chip is alive or brain dead. How you go about this will depend on a detailed photo of the component side.
