Recovery company marketing

October 13th, 2010, 14:56

Hello there,

I would like to know what kind of ways the owners of datarecovery companies are using for their small businesses?
Google Ads, is it really that effective as everyone says?
There seem to be a very small market for harddrive recovery ;|

Mouth to mouth publicity is the best. Happy clients are the best publicity.

If you need more advertising to get more work either you have wrong target, wrong business model, wrong customers , a combination of these or....... (yes !!).

I have the opposite problem....

I guess your secret to success is the excellent public relations skills that you demonstrate in this forum.

I'm not on the dole and I give real data or service for real money, not 'believe that...' or 'if I knew...' . It's simply plainly only that. I know it hurts you, but there must be a f##king reason even if you don't get it.

lol guys dont fight ;).

Thing is that I would like to know how your company advertises themselves besides mouth to mouth and how it went for you in the beginning?
Its not like we're competitors anyways ;)

Ads in any media could be a way for a newly started DR company to gain momentum. From there things will either accelerate or come to a stop, depending on whether you deliver or not.

When starting out you should carefully consider in what ways you will be different to the competiton. Have you specialized in recovering certain types of issues or hw, aiming for speedy deliveries, or low prices? Or aiming at specific business segments?

Word of mouth and credibility are crucial. I reckon that's the reason for the comments you have received in this thread. Cocky attitudes like "I can fix anything" or "I learn in one day what takes months for others" show ignorance, and will surely lead to disasters.

In fact one of the most important personal abilities when running a newly started DR business is to know when you can't handle a job. In other words, knowing when to stop before customer's data risks more damage.

Very important

other wise you need to get creative and spend money on advertising.

Personally i get allot of hits from goodle adverts-- but the conversions are toooo low. On the other side i advertise in other places.. and the conversions are 50-90% !(and i get cases from EU! so practically that makes me and you competitors)

Its where people look and what you have to offer.

I still don't get much because I am a "learner" - Allot of DR companies guarantee recovery! can you?

But once you can guarantee data recovery on all cases you will get allot of work...from places you don't expect.

Good Luck

First of all nobody can guarantee recovery not even IBAS which are nr 1 in the world.

Second, yes i have low prices and I know when I cant solve the problem, I will then ship it to another DR company. Google ads is what im trying to get on at this moment but failing harddrives are not really happening too often for people. My focus is on people and not companies so that seperates me even more from the rest. And I only accept customers from within Sweden.

Apologies about the phrase that part about guarantees. I misspoke.

I meant to say it in a way that you can handle all recoveries internally without outsourcing. Confident enough and reliable to do complex jobs.
Impossible jobs are another story'; I guess - and start costing hundreds of thousands and that is another market.

IBAS are owned by Ontrack, so actually Ontrack are number 1, though this is based on global presence not on technical capabilities....

Yep oncrack are not the best for sure.

I can do any job according to the company website. Nobody will know that im outsourcing. I care about the customer so whatever I cant fix i send to external lab and they fix it. That means the profit for me will be 0 pretty much, however thats the only solution imo.

Adwords is very good, but the choice of the words you want hits for is very important.
When i started i cost me about 2000 € a month, with some good jobs.
After carefully examining the configuration, now it costs between 1000 and 1500 € a month and the number of jobs i get has tripled.
For me, its really worth its money.

Wallstreet, I'm curious. What type of recovery operation are you going to run with no tools, no DR experience, no marketing experience, and outsourcing?

Maybe he is making a business plan only and applying for EU loan.
