The disk is failing. With an appropriate procedure - not at user level - it is possible to try to refurbish it. Refer to the nearest reputable pro. We do it but it's too far. Otherwise, discard it.

Since you were formatting it , data is not important .
Bin the drive and get a new one.

Can we see the SMART report? Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

As for binning the drive, you could always sell the PCB on eBay. It may also be worth trying other hard drive utilities, if only for the practice.

Instead of seeing the SMART would be better to BE SMART ...

Data not important, you can try HDD Repair 2.0, but if you press wrong button, it will brick your drive forever.

Make a screen shot of main screen and post it there. You can also try "Passport", then ok. Following this press "Check structure". Wait patient.
For now don't do anything else.

Bullshit. SERVICE AREA IS OK, 'something else' not and there's only one way to fix it... not with 'free' tools or without the kh to do it .

I can't argue with you, pro guys. However something tells me if drive reports seek error when writing, it means it canot remove offending track, it might be firmware. But you are right, lets wait for SMART report first.

It's not firmware 99percent, and even if you see the smart and clear it assuming you know how to do it, drive will still be in the same state... sorry.

I'm suggesting the OP examine the SMART data to get some information about the failure, eg reallocated sectors.

The "Details are unavailable: Internal error" message is suggesting that HDLLFT is having difficulty retrieving the ATA Identify Device information block. I'd try identifying the drive with other software, eg SeaTools, MHDD, HDAT2.

The seek error occurs at offset 2147483648 (= 0x80000000), which is at the 2GB boundary. I don't know whether this is significant.

Simply the drive doesn't respond properly anymore because of encountering a ......................... so HDLLF exit with an error.
It can happen at the beginning, in the middle, at the end or everywhere.
Again, there's ONLY ONE WAY to solve it once for all and the procedure is also a bit complicated to ensure proper result.
I can say it because I just finished refurbishing a half dozen of 6Y160M0 same firmware....

Data recovery pro and refurbishing... What's bad in it? When you need good donors... Again, fw is fine and not needed.
