We’ve a case, it’s a Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 hdd.
We use Salvation Data HD Doctor to try to fix firmware issue but not possible. There are many problem with module SMART and G-LIST. It's not possible to read and update this module. We can't access to the user data.

However, When we use the SMART reset feature in HD Doctor, we CAN access to the sector and see partition for example.
So, at this moment, we keep power on and connect the pata/sata cable to Atola Insight. Atola identify one time the hdd (all the informations of the hdd are ok) but when we would like to start imaging for example, Atola would like to detect again but not possible and all features are not possible.

We've tried to use different tools to disable SMART directly in the hdd but not possible. For that, we use HD Doctor reset SMART and connect the SATA cable on a another computer. We see the HDD but when we tried to access the HDD, it becomes undetected. We've tried to use Hitachi Tools, MHDD, HDAT2 but always the same thing.

Have you an idea to resolve this issue ?

I think your main problem is not related to SMART, but with G-List.
You spoke a lot about SMART, but you didn't told what you've done with G-List.

We've effectively an issue with the G-List but we can't fix the problem. We can't read this module and we can't write a backup of this module. The SA for this module is inaccessible (4040404040).

Probably you have some bad sectors in SA on that area.
Are you able to build one glist from both copies?
