Hi!

I have one Quantum 15GB type GTLA LM15A011-01-A from year 2000. Long time ago it stopped to work and even cannot be seen. Now I bought a PCB with the same number (firmware version). Indeed, the number was on sticker marked by hand with pen. I try with this PCB, but nothing different as result. Then I replace the EEPROM chip, but again no signs of life. Any ideas?
BTW, the disk died "silently" without smoke and "bang".
Sorry for my English

You forgot TVS and 'percussive maintenance'
Unless you hear 'clunk' and it's not pcb, check the firmware.
Or 'no sign of life' means no spin ? In that case it's different.

Can you upload a detailed photo of the PCB?

Why ? Don't you have a LM at home ?

(There's plenty of pictures on the net but 99 out of 100 if the problem is beyond simple, only pro intervention / pro tools can get data out of these puppies !!)

This should be from LCT 15 series.
Those drives are quite "friendly" using PCB from other drive. You should look for spindle short, stiction.
What does it mean "disk died "silently"" ? Any sound from inside? Also this drive have terminal .... as far as i remember.

Happy New Year to all of you! :druunk: Sorry I don't reply so long. I have lost the screws from the PCB and attempt to change them without success :( Now I use a bit longer ones with washers to make additional experiments. I try to put it on first IDE bus as master and as slave. The BIOS see it , but cannot detect its type. I wrote that the disk died silently, because there is not smoke and fire (as with one of my other disks) and the heads dont clicks continiously. BTW its name warns for some fire sometimes :D . I think there was something strange with this disk even when it was alive, because it worked only as slave I think..
Anyway, I give up :rip: and will try to revive my last broken disk - one DeskStar ( or DeathStar as named widely  ). But this case - on its own topic...
