Hi All,

I have a the above drive that powers up and becomes ready in about 8 seconds with no abnormal noises. In SD DC and DD as soon as you try to detect the drive parameters it errors and stays that way unitil you give a soft reset (a hard reset is not required).

After obtaining the correct .res file and loading the drive up in DD, you cannot read any modules or tracks. Both heads display a "Head Bad" message when tested.

My question is, is it possible for this drive to spin up and become ready with no abnormal noises within 8 seconds from power up - with bad heads, or is this looking more like a pcb failure?.

Has anyone else experienced this type of failure on a WD Drive?

In DC after read from drive I get:-

Model: <Blank>
FW: <Blank>
LBA: 0
CACHE: 0 K

In DD after load from drive I Get:-

Model: <Blank>
Serial: <Blank>
FW Rev: <Blank>
LBA: 0
Heads: 2
SPT: 1272

Any help would be appreciated...

Many thanks.

Steve..

I've had both cases.
First of all, try to check if patient PCB is fine.
After that, try an hotswap.
