changing pcb of st3500418as

January 5th, 2011, 17:49

Hi i have two seagate hard disk, the same model are the same but the pcb appears different.

One hard disk is working, and other dosen't work, bios dosen't detect.

It's possible to change the pcb from the working model to broken model?
It's dangerous if the pcb are not the same?

Any idea to get back data from the hard disk it's not working?

Thanks

If PCB looks different means it's really different, so you'll not get lucky with that.
You can even get the situation worse.

My problem i turn the hard disk, sounds a littel bit no loud, stops, a few seconds later, again sounds, and keep for a few more times, and after 30 seconds dosen't sound anything.

What can i do?Currently i have the disk plugged into an external usb sata adapter.
So if i change the pcb will be a new nightmare?

Thanks

if the drive is not spinning up , but it sound like it is trying to. most likely the motor has seized and it is not something you can fix on your own.

If it is spinning up to speed and clicking and stopping, most likely the reading mechanism is failed and this is also something you cannot fix. ( let me rephrase, you can try, but 99% you will fail and cause more damage)

Get a pro to give you a free diag locally if you can

You mean get a profesional service in my area to do a diagnostic?

Thanks

If you say the data is valuable, it's the only option you have.
