Ok Guys Firstly - I know i should have backed up my data !

So I have a dead(ish) WD5000AAKS-75YGA0. The drive spins up while the BIOS tries to detect it. Eventually BIOS gives up and drive stops spinning. Interestingly I have two drives from the same machine displaying similar faults so suspect a power supply issue.

I initially suspected the drive had shorted so removed and checked diodes as per fzabkars post (wd5000aaks-00tma0-pcb-needs-changing-t15491.html)

My results suggest all is ok on this front :

D3 - 693
D4 - 872
R64 - 0.5
R67 - 0.5

No funny 'clicky' noises coming from the drive either.

Any suggestions on what to try next ? The fact the drive spins up means there must be hope !

I will be short, because i want to go to sleep.

If the drive is spinning, this means almost nothing, it is not enough for any hope!
Because your drives stops spinning, this means one (or more) heads are not working correctly, and can't find the position on the platters...

The twin head problem on the 2 drive _CAN BE_ PSU related too...
(I have seen a lot of times on WD drives...)
Sorry to say, this is not a DIY case, if you want your data back, you should seek for professional help before you mess up something more....

Contact PCimage from this forum , ur case has a good chance to be a very cheap recovery. Need to swap the board and move original adaptives.
