The introduction of 4K sector size means an increase in ECC size compared to 512b sectors. Does this suggest that SA modules are less likely to get corrupted, therefore drives with firmware issues should decrease and the physical/electrical problems will become the main issues to deal with?

@Nick,
In % how many FW corruption do you see in everyday work ? Here less than 7-8% (now) . The days of 2Bxxx , 2Fxxx and co. are far away.
New 4K sector format doesn't prevent FW to be corrupted, in my opinion.
Too soon to see effectively how much it will impact on failures...

More ECC capacity should equate to less chance of errors when reading/writing, therefore less chance of corrupted SA modules. Well that's what I would have thought, maybe I don't understand the topic enough. What do you think?

I think that ECC has little or nothing to do about FW corruption...

If SA modules are sectors like any other, how would improved ECC not help? Some insight would be good.

Agreed. Seems like a good point. However, it would help to understand how firmware corruption is caused to begin with.
