I have a dead Fujitsu MHV2120BH 2.5 inch hard drive - no power going through.

I also have two other drives of the same model.

I have been reading about swapping platters and basic problem is I cannot afford to buy an expensive platter swap tool for one of use.

Can anyone share some advice on how I could swap the platters and also information on the MHV2120BH model - in terms of the tools I would need. I think I have the right type of screwdriver to open the drive up but internally I do not what the Torx screwdrivers I might need?

No power going through - id suggest checking the PCB first.

The PCB on this particular model (I read somewhere) is configured specifically for that one particular drive.

So swapping a working PCB onto the drive would be of no use.

You do realize based off what you said swapping the platters into that other drive you will need to move the specific board to that drive as well, meaning you are back at square one. If the boards are incompatible then moving the platters solves nothing.

You should never need to move the platter unless the motor is seized. Check the board for a bad fuse. If you move the platters yourself you can kiss you data goodbye.

Oh I see - I had a bad feeling it might be something even worse.

I am not attempting anything myself - but from the information I am gathering - swapping platter means swapping pcb but if PCB is dead, no recovery possible.

The drive has been dead for over a year now - all I have done is gather information - hopefully find someone to do the job but tempted to try swapping PCB.

Can anyone recommend some screwdrivers, having trouble trying to work out the size on this drive for the PCB screws. And also is there some guide on how to swap a PCB?

This model have programmed adatpives on the PCB.
So if you simply swap the PCB you will get nothing success.
You NEED to repair the original PCB or seek for help if you are unsure how to do that.

There is a 2A fuse near the +5V pins at the SATA power connector.
