Seagate T3320820SCE Spinup/PUIS Issue

July 5th, 2013, 16:52

Hello All,

I'm experiencing issue with Seagate ST3320820SCE (Part # 98K13G-262). Its work only 1 time - I mean it spins only when you run HDAT2 /W, once you disconnect drive and connect back it doesn't spins. It seems to me its not saving Spinup and PUIS.

Can someone please help me on this as soon as you can? Thank you.

Did you actually use HDAT2 to disable PUIS after spinning up the drive?

Hello,

Yes, I did use HDAT2 to disable PUIS and it work only that time (I can hear sound of spinning) but as soon as I disconnect drive and connect back it doesn't spins or power up. Now, again if I go to HDAT2 and disable PUSI it start spinning/power up.

AIUI, the /W option doesn't actually disable PUIS. It just spins up the drive. It's not clear whether you did anything more than that.

Otherwise you could also try Hitachi's Feature Tool:

Hello All,

I've attached pictures here to show what I'm doing.

1. Connect HDD - Reboot computer.
2. Run HDAT2
3. HDD detected in HDAT2 (see IMG_1) as actual size of HDD is 320GB.
4. SPIN-UP HDD (see IMG_2) - status OK (Now, HDD SPINNING).
5. Trying to DISABLE "PUIS" (see IMG_3) but got error.
----
6. HDD still spinning.
7. Now, I'm disconnecting HDD and reconnect to computer.
8. HDD stopped spinning.
9. When you check in HDAT2 its show same as before (IMG_1).

---
Please let me know what should I do to disable PUIS feature.

Thank you all again.
