Hitachi 1TB DS7SAC100

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and have never attempted data recovery any deeper than using some free software, but have been reading some bits and pieces recently as I've had a hard drive failure on the above mentioned drive. Hitachi 1TB DS7SAC100 SATA 3GB/s 7200RPM etc etc...

I've looked into the professionals and to be honest the data on the drive is not as valuable as the price these companies charge - so I thought I'd just look into doing it myself and if it works, great...if not, I'll write it off as experience!

I've purchased another identical (as identical as I can get!) drive - 6 months later - and am happy to use it as a donor if required / suitable.

Really I just wanted to get an opinion on where I should start looking with the project.

Essentially, when I connect power and data cables to the drive and switch on, it spins up nice and cleanly and then just at the point you think the heads would normally kick in, it spins back down again to a stop...and there it stays. The drive isn't recognised in BIOS or Windows. So I'm hopeful that as there is no big clicking or crunching that maybe the platters are okay. But I could be totally naive! Does it sound like a mechanical problem inside the drive? Or PCB?

I appreciate it's difficult to give all the answers so please bear with me being a beginner and all - but I'm just up for seeing if I can get this data back and I won't be distraught if not!

Any more info required? Probably loads! :)

Thanks in advance,
Rob
