Hello there,
I have the above mentioned HDD and have been using as a backup device with my Transcend USB Casing. One Gloomy the HDD just won't spin up. I removed it from the casing in tried it with my desktop Pc... Nope! Still the same.
Any Ideas? Is an service manual Available?

Have a nice day. :|

Corrupted firmware / bad PCB / mechanical problem

There is no service manual.

i went dare devil and opened the disk. The head was somehow glued to the platter. I tried to dislodge it but oops! Head broke. I guess i now have myself a very expensive fan. Can you explain what could've caused the head to stick?

Hi,

It could be a power failure for example, a shock or a lot of other things.
I think you've already done some things you shouldn't do, so now you really need to get professional help, and be prepared to pay up a bit more for what you've done.

Perhaps.
Drive had nothing important so I went ahed to open it.
I see that Drives last less in Portable Use than Dsktop Use.
.......................
On a sidenote,
I have 2 laptops which had IDE 40 GB HDDs. Those HDDs went bad.
Since IDE HDDs are not available (or are asking significant premiums), Is there a way to mod the SATA Laptop HDD for IDE laptop use?

Ever tried to pick up a flat bit of glass from a wet surface, or a playing card from a polished table and it feels like its stuck there? :)

Has the disk (platter) been damaged in the spot where the heads were stuck on the platter?

It's too late now. However, see this thread, but heed the warnings:
