Ext HDD error after scan fix

February 20th, 2011, 11:06

Hello,

I have a problem i hope that someone can explain what just happened. last night when i plugged n my ext hdd to my computer,it ask if i want to scan fix it or continue without scanning like it will normally do. I scanned it and then after that my hdd cant be opened. it detects and read the drive but it says need to be reformatted for it to be used. i dont know what happened =) or maybe its just an error.

I want to reformat it if thats the case, but if i can recover it that will be even better cause i have lots of stuff in there.

thanks in advanced.

what is the capacity of the external drive?
How full of data is the external drive?
How long have you been using the drive for?

The capacity is 1tb and it was almost full when i scanned it. Ive been using it for 2 years but rarely use it, only to backup some data and watch movies from it. Im quite sure that all my things are still inside, but it just doesnt read as something to be opened from. if i click the HDD it will always ask me to reformat it before using it. Im sure someone has probably encountered the same problem. it will be a great help if someone can help me on this

If you really want to recover the data, then read about mhdd tool on this site. Get a sense if the drive is healthy. If it is healthy, running some recovery software might do the job.
