Hi all,

So I have a ST3500630AS (3.AAK) 7200.10 which is suffering from the 'pending' bug. Now I've fixed at least 3 or 4 of these drives in the past with this same problem, the loader solution worked fine. But this drive is a different story.

I have tried the 'normal' pending solution by using loader, but as soon as I've copied a few thousand LBAs the bug comes back and terminal starts giving pending output again. I've played with the extended settings in the task creation in DE but no luck. The drive sounds perfectly healthy, and IDs fine. Loader was created without any hassles. If I wait long enough (about a minute) after starting it up with the loader, I can see the folder structure in DE, but copying anything just goes horribly slowly and with IO errors.

Any advice would be appreciated. I've received certain advice that said I should try a different PCB and/or heads if the loader doesn't help, but I don't want to go down this route (yet?). After starting up with the loader I can image about 130,000 LBAs very fast, and then the bug stops me again. I'm hoping there's a solution for this (that someone is willing to share with me).

An update on this drive. First, thanks to pcimage for some advice with this case.

It turns out that this drive has head issues as well. I'm busy imaging the drive with heads 0 to 5, with 2 disabled and it's almost complete. Once that's done and I've done a few other things, I'll replace the faulty HSA and get the rest of what was needed from head 2.
