WD5001ABYS no access to data

December 6th, 2012, 12:34

Hi,
I've got a WD5001ABYS-01YNA0 which is not detected.
Detected 1 or 2 times only when specify SA SPT.
I could then backup all the SA without any problem.
But no access to data.

So I tried a hot swap: detected again but still no access to data (able to read about 16'000 sectors then turns busy).

Tried heads change with a compatible donnor: doesn't work at all (changed back the original heads afterthis and the donnor works again so I'm sure i didn't break the heads during the exchange).

Still the same at the end: no access to data and it's the only thing that matters to me.

Someone can help?

Thanks

Hi,

Are you sure translator is fine?

Hi dmarques,

Yes of course I re-generated the translator that's not the problem at all. Everything seems fine except that we can't access to the data.

But you can access to 16.000 sectors as you said right?

What about backwards? Maybe you have a damaged area there.

In fact now I can't access the 16'000 first sectors anymore...

Reverse mode doesn't work neither.

So I would start all over again and check everything, PCB, heads, etc.

i dono why, but some how some Mod. are not OK (more or less) you will need to double chk this and see
in fact make sure Mod. are OK from inside not judge from reading.
then maybe the pcb issue, but more in Mod.

good luck
