Hi, I used my hardisk as external disk. I connected there 18V. It worked. But after about 2hours it stopped. I unscrew board and there is(red arrow) a blackish, it seems it is from diod(red arrow D), because one side of that diode is blackish. Maybe just burned diode?
How to find out what diode to use there? Can you help? Thanks
disk is: WD5000AAKB.

Search the forum for TVS diode.

Can you tell me what type of tvs diode I need to change? Or where to buy it? What parameters of that diode?
Thanks

Hi,

As Nick_CT has said if you search TVS you find lots of results here on the forum.
Just to let you know if it's just the TVS diode & no other damage to the PCB then the faulty diode can be removed with a pair of snips & then power up the drive. just make sure you have a good PSU as the drive will not have over voltage protection + get the data off ASAP & bin the drive.

Be warned that if you do try a DIY & their is more damage than just the diode the cost of a professional DR company will be higher.
