Hello. I'm new here and hoping someone can help me with my Iomega Prestige drive. Unfortunately I tripped over the cable and it fell off my desk earlier today - I didn't think anything had happened but when I tried to plug the USB cable back into the drive, I realised that the USB connector port was loose. I opened the casing to get a better look at it and to see if I could reposition it correctly, but it then came off altogether!

I have absolutely no idea how to go about fixing it, or if it can be fixed. I spoke to Iomega through their online chat and they advised me that they do not do repairs, and can only assist with products within their warranty, and my drive is not. From searching on Google I have found that it's possible to buy an 'enclosure' and fit an existing drive to a new circuit board, etc. I have absolutely no experience with anything like this, however, and am a little apprehensive. I wondered if anyone could offer any advice about how to go about doing this - is it as simple as unscrewing the actual disk part of the drive and fitting it into a new enclosure? I've looked at some on Amazon and at the Currys website and it appears they come with everything required to fit the drive. I'm just not sure whether they assume the user has any experience of fitting anything technical!

I think if it's possible to just put the actual disk into a new enclosure, that would be the cheapest option - since there are enclosures on Amazon from £6.00. I just wondered if anyone could tell me whether it's a relatively straightforward case of removing the disk from the old enclosure and screwing it into the new one? Is it something someone with no technical experience of any sort can do?

Should be only a matter of removing some screws, putting new drive in, and place screws back. But it really depends on the enclosure's design. Typically, very simple.

Does anyone know which type of enclosure would be suitable for an Iomega Prestige 1TB drive? I've searched for info on Google, but can't seem to find anything specific. When I searched for 'Iomega Prestige hard drive enclosure', the search bar predicted 'SATA'. If it's a regular SATA drive, then you can just plug it into a spare SATA port on a desktop PC.

If the drive is working then it should just come up as a drive letter on your PC.

I use a MacBook Pro laptop, as far as I know there is no SATA port. I assume there is no damage to the disk - nothing else has been dislodged, just the USB port, and it still switches on successfully. If anyone could confirm the type of drive used in an Iomega Prestige (or is there a way I can check myself?) and what type of enclosure would work, I'd be very grateful.
