I have just purchased an external case, power supply and USB cable for my 3.5'' IDE HDD's. I have a 160GB, 200GB and a 300GB. The 200GB works fine, I have taken everything off the HDD [recently my PC died so I bought a laptop as my primary computer. The 160GB shows up in My Computer but as a removable disc and I cannot open it. I get an error message about I/O [see first link]. Anyone got any ideas?

The 300GB hard drive is my dad's. I have tried to take his personal files off it for him as he doesn't have a PC anymore and the HDD will not show up in Windows and I cannot access it. It makes some weird sounds that I have never come across before and it worked perfectly when he had it in his PC, but that was about 6-7 years ago. The second link below contains a YouTube video showing the sounds the HDD makes when plugged in. Any help with this is greatly apreciated.

Thanks alot.

Check the master/slave jumpers on the 160gb, a lot of USB caddies are fussy about drives being set to master rather than CS.

300gb sounds very broken.

Could be PCB but more likely heads :-(
