So i just lost 1.5 terabytes of un-backed up data and i am very depressed about that fact.

My solution so far was placing my drive in the freezer for 12 hours.. i went to work

came back popped it in my hot swap the drive is making scarping noises but came back to life

enough so that i could use hdd raw copy tool to back it up my only concern is that i don't have a hdd large enough for a 1.5 tb drive

will this be a major issue?

or will i just lose the data written at the end of my drive ? or can i separate the image to 2 drives?

hdd have a breeze hole to compensate difference of external pressure.
put the hdd in the freezer it means allow air to enter and having humidity.
Some junk website suggest that method of DIY recovery su i assume you read there and try it, right?
That drive would probably 99,999% recovered with right tools but without freezer.(how much did u leave there? it was wrapped from a plastic?)
Even if the hard drive has big capacity (1,5TB) the cost of the recovery shoudn't be high, if everything is like i can image.
Now is more complicated.First of all u should clone the drive, than work on it, and yes u need at last a drive of 1,5 or > capacity or you will loose some data if the donor can't have same capacity and if the drive is not almost empty and luckly, and yes there are some raw software that can allow to split the image of a single drive into 2 smaller drive..

Well it was making the scratching noises prior to being put in the freezer and it was not detectable by my bios when plugged in by sata or by usb or esata using my hotswap.

so unless u have a a program that can access it when its not being detected by my computer then please do tell...

the "program" is more more expensive than a simple hdd recovery from a data recovery firm - exactly u should buy hardware + software + having know-how.
a simple program (software) can't read your hard drive by bios limitation. it's more complicated task.

Once again you give hope that there is a program and i still have no name .... the only reason my hdd found itself in the freezer is because i haven't the money needed to repair/ recover the data on it and there really wasn't much else available for me to do... that is unless u have a cheaper solution.

The tools positivebit is suggesting will cost you $10,000 or more.
Giving disk to a pro for recovery will cost you a small portion of that.
If you can't afford that, then there isn't much you can do, i'm sorry.

Judging by your description and the steps you took so far, chances are this disk is non-recoverable.

First mistake you make is not to back up your data.
Second mistake is to place HDD in freezer. And for so long.
Third mistake is to continue working on the HDD despite scraping noises.
Fourth mistake you make is not being prepared for the job when (somehow!) it 'came back to life'.

But the biggest mistake you made was thinking you could get your data back on such a complex Hard Disk through dangerous DIY techniques.

My advice is to have some professional look at this for you, maybe there is hope. Any other DIY ideas you have you should forget if data has any importance.
