Hello,
Does anybody know the RAID-5 parameters for a Lacie 2big quadra 4Tb with 4 HDDs ?
We need the block order, block size, etc.
It seems to the partition is on the HDD 2.

I think , block-size is 1sector . Give us to look at the four sectors of each drives

This would be the first time I have seen a single sector stripe outside of an Hitachi G-RAID 2 disk RAID 0. That said it does seem consistent with such.
Why they would do this is beyond me as the overhead in reading/writing data (especially if there are large files on there) is huge and really negates all but the redundancy benefits of the array.

i can tell you the settings of a Lacie Biggest Quadra (Accusys 7600)
first you have to find out the order of the disks: look in the last sector of the disk, there you can find it
then: Block Size should be 64 K, raid 5 left asynchronous (continuous)

Try RAID Reconstructor. It will automatically match drives up and locate block size, parity, etc.
Do XOR test, make sure results are significant. Then try using those settings with WinHex.

Are you sure it's RAID-5? 4TB units are typically RAID 0. You generally have to piece these together as two separate RAID 0's (obviously 2TB each), which are then combined to create the main 4TB RAID 0.

Just seen single sector stripe in a Iomega Ultramax Plus with 2x 1Tb, first one like that I've come across.

Some WD units also use single sector stripe.

Guys - Need some of your thoughts. I am working on a LaCie Big Disk Quadra. 2x 1TB, RAID 0. I was able to get images of both drives. I figured out (I beleive) that the stripe size is 1 sector, which led me to this post. I created a virtual image using the correct drive order and stripe size (as I believe it to be), and reviewd the Hex up and down the drive. In every place it seems to line up perfectly. Good news, so I thought.
However, I cannot seem to recover any data using scans (tried r-studio and ufs). Also, I cannot even find any raw files that pull up. Thus, I am stuck.
Does anyone have experience with this? Here is some more information. I appreciate any challenge of my assumptions.
- Not seeing any partitions when looking at the drive images independently
- I have not used an offset of any kind. Any thoughts here? I feel this could be the answer.
- I know sometimes you need to treat these as a software raid (or with an offest), because there are some system partitions up front. However, since I cannot see any native partitions, I don't know where to point the offset.
- I assume I am looking for HFS+
- I found a HFS volume header at 603296 of the virtual image (according to r-studio)
Please help.

Pretty sure this should be at 409640.
I think dmarques could be right about an offset, though I dont remember any Quadra RAID5 having offsets.

This is actaully a RAID 0, 2 drives. Does that change your thoughts?
I have tried many offsets (including everyone's suggestion), but no luck so far.
