I have a HP laptop with has two Toshiba hard drives.
One of them is not spinning anymore.:

MK3256GSY
HDD2E62 F VL01 S
S/N Y9FCF07ES HS1 EC.A
(CYL16383.H16.S63)
320GB (LBA 625, 142, 448Sectors)
CT: 2AVYP0AUZY8OKM

REPLACE WITH HP SPARE
516349-001
7F09B4

Can I replace swap he PCB from the 2nd HD to the one with problems without any problems? I read smewhere on your forum each hd from Toshiba has a specific data and the PCB cannot be changed by replacing the PCB.

No, you cannot directly exchange the PCB on Toshiba drives. They have unique adaptive data programmed into them, even the serial number.

You may get lucky and find that the PCB has this in an 8-Pin external ROM which could be transferred, otherwise you definitely need pro assistance.

Please bear in mind that any DIY attempts may seriously increase the chances of data loss and it is entirely your decision as to whether or not to attempt them.

Good luck :-)

@Freek, if you upload a photo of the component side, someone will identify the "ROM" for you. There may also be a fuse that you can check.

Thank you for your reply
I have to get the PCB off the drive first. It has not the normal screws but more like a + screw but I cannot get it off with a normal philips so have to find the right tool first as I assume the ROM is on the back side of the PCB as on the face side there is not a single rom.

Yes, all the components are on the other side.

Hi,

Sorry about that, I will get someone to check for the enquiry and respond this morning for you.

I know our website was being updated recently and being moved to a faster server, so maybe something went wrong there. I'll PM you if we can't find the enquiry.

Thank you

Sean
