SATA cable - wiring pins and re: Seagate 500GB SD1a

December 4th, 2011, 5:46

Hi, I have a hard drive in question with the SD1a written on the drive itself - so I assume the factory has already updated it ...

The SATA connector on the drive itself has broken off, so I took the rest of it off and started to solder iron it.
I am first going to solder shortish wires on it then attach the SATA cable on it - might be easier.

1. The SATA connector has 7 pins, but when you break open the SATA cable it has 8 wires. Can someone advise me which one gets left out??

I don't have anything important as it was only a backup drive.

Many thanks.
