Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
I have a (Hitachi 5k500 B-500) , 500gb 2.5" SATA HDD,
When plugged into my PC it makes a click every second or so (when the bios is trying to detect the drive)
the BIOS hangs when trying to detect the drive (for 30 seconds) & in the end no disk detected for the SATA Port the disk is plugged into.
I tried a bootable tool called HDDRegenerator but it does not detect the drive either.
It seems to me that the disks interface board is fried.
Is there any other tools or anything else i should try... or is all hope gone ?
cheers.

Proper diagnosis is required. If the pcb was as you suspect & say is fried then the drive most likely wouldnt spin up at all.
Was the drive dropped or knocked?
Clicking noise is normally due to damaged heads or preamp either way not a diy fix.
Personally i would recommend sending it to a pro & get it properly diagnoised & if the data is worth the quote then let them recover your data.
