Western Digital HDD PBC needed !!!

November 23rd, 2011, 8:55

Hello everybody,

Can anyone supply the PBC (ROM) Firmware software - version 025KC for the following HDD:

WESTERN DIGITAL - 200GB
WD2000JS-19MHB0
SN: WMANL1014387
DCM: DSBHCTJAH
Product of Malaysia.

PBC was rewritten and it is impossible to recover any data from it, also i would appreciate if anyone with a similar HDD will be willing to help me.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, i just need the soft/bios with version 025KC. Ofcourse i would be interested to acquire a similar HDD for parts but for now i just need the original Firmware version to be able to decrypt the data, can you provide this?

Someone suggested that is possible to recreate a compatible firmware version or original but anyone knows what this involves or if any software company can do this?

Computer got stuck while shutting down and try to write the HDD. I had to restart as it stayed like this for a while and on reboot the HDD was not recognized on BIOS and was making strange noises, computer was trying to identify what is the component and after a while was skipping the process and continue with windows loading.

I sent it to a recovery data company that informed the heads are burned and they don't have spare heads to replace and i sent it to second company that found the firmware version installed is not the original one mentioned on the HDD and it would be impossible for them to decrypt the data. They said that if they get the compatible firmware version they can try to activate only some of the heads or try more things with the latest very expensive devices they have so first step would be to get the Firmware and hopefully this will be enough to recover my data.

Considering the fact that first company had access to original firmware and now are refusing to admit they changed anything to hard drive or maybe didn't even bothered to save the original version i doubt even the heads are the issue so maybe the second company will be able to help more if right Firmware is found.

This analysis sounds somewhat questionable to me

Based on your description of the failure I would guess a heads problem. Did the first company break the seal and open the drive?

Is the second company saying that the first company intentionally overwrote some part of the firmware? Or maybe just that they put the wrong PCB back onto the drive when they sent it back to you?

The hard drive was not opened until now. The second company just informed me that on the HDD it's written Firmware version 025KC and they found installed 022EC so any options is possible but first company don't admit touching the drive in any way which is difficult for me to believe but i can't be sure 100% of what the second company said either, maybe they didn't saved original firmware, made a mistake and then hoped to be possible to retrieve it form the first company ... all i know is that i need this firmware to be able to do anything ... i am afraid that if i send it to other company no matter how good they will be or what equipment they have they might raise the same problem.
