When you edit head map in RAM what do you change map to? Maybe there is problem with the 'paired' head you use in map to substitute for bad head.

Try 0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0 before soft reset, then set back to 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 (or what map you need)
