Got some old WD 20GB (protege shit from 2001). When I scan it in MHDD it's full of "S" marks (IDNFs). Have tried changing PCB, but still the same.
There are no strange KLIK-KLIK sounds, and it spins fine (for my ears).

BIOS in original PC can detect it (but nothing more), and my service PC don't see it evein in BIOS. MHDD, of course, can see it, but it gives all "S".

What could be the problem? Electronics? Data have some importance, so before ERASE-ing, it would be nice to save something (eventhough I've already told the user that this is 'goodbye disk, togehter with data').

I don't have any spec. hardware for HDD repair (and I don't intend to, since this is not my primary occupation), so if something can be done with MHDD, please reply.

Hi,

this is almost surely a disk FW defect, you cannot work this around by changing the PCB, special tools and experience are required to repair this.

Hi,

FW means Firmware indeed :) But it is not stored on the PCB only.
