Hi everybody,

I am having a critical situation here and hopefully you guys can help me with it.

My computer suddenly stopped seeing my 2TB Seagate hard drive.
I took it to local hard drive repair service and after scanning they told me that the data is still on the disk and it is safe, the problem is electrical. The circuit is not working.

Here is my question.

Is changing the circuit (which is Seagate 100536501 REV A PCB) might be the solution ? Cause they told me "You can't change the circuit, it's a part of this specific hard drive" and the gave me a $500 quote for recovering my information.

If you can't change the circuit, then why companies sell circuits online ? let's say my particular circuit, which is Seagate 100536501 REV A PCB, I found online for $45.

Please help me with your advices as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Search for "ROM" on the forum

Each board has unique, drive specific "adaptive" information stored in flash memory. This chip, or its contents, needs to be transferred to the donor PCB. Some board suppliers include a "firmware transfer" or "ROM" transfer service for US$10. Otherwise, if you are not adept at soldering, your local TV/AV repairer should be able to do it for you.

That said, if your drive spins up and identifies with its correct model number and capacity, then the problem is most likely not PCB related. What is the symptom? You say "after scanning they told me that the data is still on the disk", so this would suggest a media or head fault, rather than a PCB problem.
