Hi all,

I have a big problem:
I have a netbook ASUS Eee PC 1005PXD.
After only two days of use, i get a black screen at the beginning: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".

Pressing F9 on boot doesn't work and i'm still getting the black screen.

F2 is working, then in Boot Settings, i set Removable Device as 1st Boot Device. (and there is no Boot Booster option to disable).

Then, using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, i create a Windows 7 bootable USB, in order to use the System Recovery.
When i get to the System Recovery Options screen, no Operating System appear in the list. (It say to load drivers in this case, but i have no idea which drivers and how to load them).

Then i press next without choosing OS, but pressing Startup Repair after that didn't help.
Also using the Command Prompt didn't help (bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /scanos, bootrec /rebuildbcd) The two last commands (/scanos and /rebuildbcd) give: "Number of windows installed: 0".

Then i decided to reformat and reinstall Windows 7 (my netbook is new):
i boot using the Windows 7 bootable USB i created before, then on first screen i press on "Install now".
When i get to screen "Which type of installation do you want", i choose Custom.
Then i get to screen "Where do you want to install Windows?" but the list is empty, and at the bottom, it is written "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation".

Please helppp :)

Hi,

I think you would be better off speaking the the manufactures help line or by taking it back to the shop & getting a replacement.
As your trying to reintall windows this means you are not trying to recover data which is what this furum is for.

I do wish you all the best & hope you get it sorted.

Your drive is invisible.
Maybe its broken or just slip off the sata connector.

Possible they just need to install SATA drivers which they should be able to download from the manufatures site http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_1005PXD/#download

As previousally said if its new then you should be able to swap it at the shop you got it from or talk to manufactures help line.

loki, i don't think windows 7 has such issues. It's basically standard ahci drivers and win7 includes them.
I think laptokowiec is right, something wrong with drive. As i understand from OP's description, BIOS does not detect the drive either.

But i agree, since this is new machine OP should just ask for replacement.

From what the user posted above I thought it would be worth mentioning it could possibly be SATA drivers.
Maybe the AHCI files were not copied over when they created the USB pen?
Maybe different version of win7 (should be win7 starter) was used to create the usb pen?
Maybe custom AHCI driver?
Doubt it came with a restore cd as it has no cd drive.

Anyway it was just an idea but it would still be easier & less hassle to swap it out at the shop.

thank you all for your answers.

i have travel for three months so i'll have to wait still i'll be back home.

just one other question: is there a way i could be sure it's a drive problem or the drive is gone? (and i'll have to wait three months without my netbook)

thanks again

Yes. But first you need to answer this question: Does your drive show up on BIOS? And if yes, does it show correct name, capacity etc?

That would be a first step towards eliminating other possible problems.

If this is new PC and you are traveling and you should have your paper work on this one so when you return home you do not pay custom taxes on it. Then I would see if there was another service center where you are at that can try and take this for warrenty repair for you. Normally they can do this from other places around the world. It is worth checking out if you can find a service center around you to ask them on this one or send an email to the manufacture who you got this one from.
