I am fairly new to data-recovery so please bare with me :).

At present I am trying to get data off a friend's old HDD. It's a Western Digital WD200EB - 00BHF0.

The original drive does not spin up and unfortunately the lid has been removed and put back on again.

I bought a donor-drive and tried replacing the PCB. The drive spins up but clicks (approx. 2 times a second) and after a while spins down again.

My question is:

1. did removing of the lid damage the head-alignment or is this only an issue with new WD drives?
2. does the clicking come from not having replaced the controller-chip.
3. how can I continue or shall I give back the drive / dump it etc.?

Would be grateful for help!!!

Thanks a lot in advance!

Not a good idea to use one of the most difficult drives to recover to experiment witch.
If lid has been opened, and data is not important, bin it.
