Hello

I need to know if someone can help me with this test I´m making.

Have a WD10EADS that the spindle was stuck. I take out the spindle and replace it for a new one.

Now I put the new spindle with the platters in the case and power on the drive but the heads nok 3 times and turn of the drive.

I need to test if the spindle is 100% working but I don´t have enough time to test that with the stroboscope because the drive turns off really fast.

Anyone know a way to put the spindle working without turning itself off ??

I tried to put a paper between the pre amp and pcb but the drive react the same way.

Please let me know if someone have an idea to do this.

Thanks you all

Do you mean it is still knocking?
I'm not sure about that one.

I guess you also want to test if the motor can reach the correct speed?
I think I would try a different pcb also isolating the pcb from the preamp.
And also does it knock 3 times now?

Probably motor is no longer the issue...

Yes I just need to know if the spindle is 100%.

I will try with other pcb to see if I get the same result.

I used a good method to not lose the alignment.. the lower surface already have some damages so I think can be that.

But now my interest is just to know if the procedure I used to swap the spindle worked.. and for that I need to measure the spindle RPM.

Hi

I used other pcb but the result is almost the same, the heads don´t nok but the drive turns of after few seconds.

Steel don´t have idea how to keep the spindle working to test the RPM.

AISI, if the heads move, then this would suggest that the drive has spun up to the correct speed.

The fact that the drive spins down after the heads move, and also when the preamp is isolated, would suggest that it is spinning down because it can't lock onto the track servo information. Perhaps there is excessive runout, or head / media damage?

Does a good drive also spin down when the preamp is isolated?

This is the reason DIY is not encouraged.

I guess at this stage professional recovery is your only option. You also should accept that as this case has already had physical repairs attempted and media has been opened that there will likely be extra costs involved.

I will try to get other drive for a hot swap because is my last chance with this one.

If this drive spindle is 100% working I find a way to replace the spindle without broking the hard drive body.
