CYLINDERS x HEADS x SECTORS

Hi there,

Perhaps someone can offer me some advice on the following.

Recently installed a 500GB Seagate into an ASUS 1005PE, whilst applying an old image created with DriveXML an error occured. Usually this presents as no problem, just repeat the procedure, however the first thing I am told by DriveXML is that the drives head and sector count has changed from that recorded during the backups creation. I confirmed that it indeed had by applying an image of the new drive created after a clean Win7 install. After much frustration I finally managed to apply an older image and used Win7 recovery to get the machine up and running and fortunately there has been no data loss. However, what I am left with is a drive that reports what I believe to be nonstandard configuration. When I view the details of the disk is see...

CYLINDERS = 1015356 HEADS = 74 and SECTORS = 13

Whereas I believe the old details were...

CYLINDERS = 60801 HEADS = 255 and SECTORS = 63

All previous partitions have been recreated and data restored and everything appears to be OK but I am left with the following question.

Should I attempt to restore the standard configuration? I have backups of everything so it can be done. What are the technical ramifications of the new disk configuration when compared to the old.

I would check the cables first. Particularly the data cable at both ends.
