Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

i bought a wd3200bevt to use on my xbox360 via hddhackr, when i used the application to return the drive to stock firmware, it stopped showing up on bios and its presence in my desktop slows down bios startup.
It only shows up my hp g61 and i installed windows vista on it. I've tried booting to dos on the laptop but the drive won't let that happen.
It showed up on my desktop once but never again. If it were dead i would get that but knowing it's not completely gone is making me reluctant to bin it.

Is this a legit drive? If you just bought it, it is still under warranty so you can get a replacement.
Otherwise, if drive does not show up in Bios, then i'm afraid there is not much you can do. Probably something went wrong during f/w update, and since drive is not visible in bios anymore then you can't do anything f/w related, it requires expensive equipment and know-how.
Sorry.
