I have recently purchased Salvation Data Compass Premium, what other equipment would I need to be able to do effective data recovery because I realize that the Data Compass is only for cloning.

Like you say this is only for cloning. You will need to have other tools in order to read and fix the HDD and be able to do SA testing. Look for UDMA PC3k, Atola, or SD HD DR Suite that is what else you need to do effective data recovery plus a lot of hard work and knowledge to use these tools and understand the HDD and how it work. Normally it takes about 3 to 5 years to be effective as you say in DR.

Thank you, the UDMA PC3k and Atola I think I cant afford now, I can try and acquire the seagate and WD HD DR to start with and also are the any manuals or ebooks to guide in Data Recovery?

I think PC3K is the best solution.
SD can work too, but is inferior. Altough is cheaper is lifetime updates (when they came....)
