January 30th, 2012, 4:04

Hi dear due to loss 2nd hard i need new hard to get data backup and need help to protect my data from future loss.

1 In Pakistan no new hard rates are available due to shortage caused by flood. Please tell me most economical hard of 1 to 3 TB and also which brand Hitachi Samsung.

2 Last time i change my power supply to new one and also change the sata cable. But after 1 year my wd 1TB got bad sector at the start.I think so it is due to electricity shortcut. Please tell if any thing cause this.

3 Who to protect hard is it from a raid or ups based stabilizer.

please guide me i know nothing about raid but i need a backup and security of hard drive does raid protect against shortcut bad sector
my board spec are as under

Looking at your history of postings, you seem to have many hard disk problems, but the real cause is often not found (a disk with unreadable sectors, does not necessarily mean that the disk was faulty).

Unfortunately, IMHO your posts do not translate well into English (e.g. "electricity shortcut" and "shortcut bad sector" are not phrases I have ever heard before), and your questions often seem vague / difficult to understand, and appear to contain incorrect or difficult to understand assumptions. :( For these reasons I often do not reply to your questions. You might get more help if you can find a local hard disk expert in your area, so that you can avoid the language problems with translations.

Therefore I am not going to answer your questions point-by-point, but I will just give a couple of comments on the general topic you seem to be asking about:

a) If you have power problems, then using RAID might not prevent data loss.

b) If you have multiple unreliable disks, then using RAID might not prevent data loss.

c) RAID is not a substitute for backups.

d) If you have problems with power, I suggest that you find the cause(s) and fix it/them first.

Good luck!

thanks for reply i will try my best to explain my porblem

plase share your experience about a good hard which i need to buy.

you are right (a disk with unreadable sectors, does not necessarily mean that the disk was faulty). My 1tb is still working fine after 10 days only one bad sector at the start and not showing last partition in the end. I am still finding some expert in my aera to get my encrypted partion back.

electricity shortcut

i mean to say in paksitan electricity load shading is vary common which i think is a cause of bad sector.
So i think i need a ups to preserve my hard drive.

If you have multiple unreliable disks, then using RAID might not prevent data loss.

dear last time i buyed a 1tb cavier balck new to protect my self. And also after some time i buy 500gb hitachi which is the best of my all time. What you suggest me for new harddrive Beacause wd 750 hardrive which i send for claim. But the harddrive i get for claim is vary bad. You have had many drive problems in the past, without getting to the underlying cause, so it is not sensible for me to make suggestions about which drive to buy. It would be impossible to know whether you could have similar problems in future with any drive, without knowing the underlying cause(s) of previous problems. Perhaps they were all caused by power problems, and questions about different disk drives are a waste of time...

amsh420 wrote:only one bad sector at the start

That is not correct - based on the previous data you have given in this thread:

1tb-first-sector-bad-not-showing-encrypted-partition-t21863.html

your 1TB drive seems to have at least 9 unreadable sectors, probably all within the first 381MB of the drive.

Yes, I agree! There are different types of UPS and with different features. Look at what is available in your local market, and do your research about the different features. Also consider which other equipment you should connect to the UPS - not just the hard drive.

amsh420 wrote:Do i send my 1tb to claim.

I do not see evidence of a genuine drive problem with the WD 1TB drive, but I cannot predict the future - that drive could fail tomorrow or 10 years in the future. That uncertainty is one reason why having backups is important. :) If you have been suffering from power interruptions, that can cause many problems with drives. Based on your earlier comments, I suggest you focus on getting a suitable UPS, and make sure that you have backups.
