Seagate Barracuda(ST3320620AS) and new PCB and site code?

December 29th, 2008, 6:35

Hello, new to these forums and looking for help. :)

2 weeks before holidays I got my Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200.10 PCB fried. I've been trying to find solutions and first one I found out was to replace the frield PCB with a matching. Well it has been really hard to find exact match with reasonable shipping distance since I suppose they aren't being produced anymore with the same model.

Now I happened to find this matching HDD, only thing that differs now is the site code. How imporant is the site code and the production country?

My Fried Seagate:
ST3320620AS
P/N: 98J14G-308
Firmware: 3.AAK
Site Code: SU
Product of China

The one I'm about to buy:
ST3320620AS
P/N 98J14G-308
Firmware: 3.AAK
Site Code: TK
Product of Thailand

I got a few pictures of the Thailand HDD, so is there something I should compare from the PCB or something?

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hmm I didn't find an edit button so heres some more info and questions.

I got to page 10 or something and found out that I probably have the same problem as many others that the TVS is fried. It seems to be the same component than in those other pictures in the other threads. The one close to the power plug.

One solution was to simply take that component off and try to start the HDD? Should I try this first before rushing to buy a new PCB? All that matters is the data, if I can get it recovered, I can send the HDD back for warranty.

I post some pictures of my PCB later when I get home from work.

Blah.. found out that TSV thing and HURRAY it fixed my HDD.. thank god I found these boards.. I would have spent some 50euro on that HDD and if it hadn't worked I would have spent even more on recovery company.

Thanks to you for free recovery :)

What did you do exactly, perhaps this could help myself and others? Do you have pictures of this thing? Thanks in advance.
