I have two WD velociraptor 2.5 drives running at 10000rpm. (not in a laptop) Bought on Ebay.
The problem is that no matter what adapter do I use, the HDD won't power on.
All SATA adapters I tried have an external power adapter and are suited for 2.5/3.5 drives.
The HDD themselves are not a problem as I have tested the HDD from the very laptop I am writing this post right now.
Result the same, It won't spin up. Inside a laptop works just fine.

The question is simple. Does anyone know what kind of SATA to usb adapter do I need to buy. As I don't want to waste any more money.
I should add that HDD enclosure/case is not an option as both HDD have a thickness of 15mm and normal 2.5 HDD have a thickness of 9.5mm. And this 2.5 drive is designed for desktop. It is mounted in a 3.5 heat sink.

I don't want to have to buy a desktop PC just to test if these HDD's work.

It could be that the drives are configured to Power Up In Standby (PUIS). Is the PUIS jumper installed?

Jumper Settings for WD SATA and EIDE Hard Drives:

Alternatively, PUIS may be enabled in the firmware, in which case you could use HDAT2 to disable it. You would need to launch HDAT2 with the /w switch to wake up the drive, ie ...

HDAT2 /w
