Hi There

I dropped a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 Hard Drive a few years ago, which was in an External casing. The drive is not being recognised by Windows XP or Windows 7. I have tried using the external casing connected via USB as well as placing the HDD into a desktop, but neither is recognising the HDD.

The hard drive itself is getting power from the casing and is spinning smoothly, with no clicking or mechanical sounds. I have read that you can replace the PCB on the hard drive and this may resolve the issue, but I wanted to get some advice first.

Any advice would be greatly received.

Thanks
Richard

Not a PCB issue

Sorry forget it if you dropped this you have more issues than you can handle alone. You need to get it diagnosed properly before you go on running this HDD after your dropped it. NO a PCB will not help you out in your case. You said several years ago not sure what this one means but looked like you put it away and did not use it for a long time. I would suggest to put it away again or find a company who can look at this and tell you what your real problem is with the HDD. Just becasue it is spinning and not making noise means that you can fix it alone after your dropped it several years ago.

there is nothing you can do to solve issue other than find a good pro company to recover the data.
