Hello all,
I have a WD2500JB. Symptoms are, it clicks 3 or 4 times then powers off. Comes back on and powers off again. swapped pcb and unit does the same thing, but clicks are slightly different. I had the U12 transferred to the donor board and same thing. Replaced the heads, same thing. So I assumed something went wrong with the head transfer so I swapped them back to the donor drive and it work fine. Am I safe to assume the drive has a damaged SA?

Not at all.
These drives are well known for alignment issues.
A straight head replacement virtually NEVER works.

thanks for the input, are the head alignment tools worth it?

Alignment tool are not going to help you in this. The problem is else where. Just to buy tools and not understand the drive and how it works will not align the heads again for you and the tools do not do this one for you either.

do you have any suggestions on what else the problem could be?

As you are using the "trial and error" method, opened the drive before a thorough diagnose (and from all this I suppose you don't have PROFESSIONAL tools - note the block letters) , at this point everyhting can be. Restart from scratch and make a COMPLETE diagnose.

I would suggest that the problem is that you are not willing to seek help when it is clearly necessary
