Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Dear all,
I was messing about with some drives and one of them bricked. It's an ST3500630A and when I had a look I noticed that the TVS component was missing from the board, probably when a previous adventure smoked it.
Through an astonishing coincidence I have an identical drive. Same model, same firmware. I've unbricked a SATA Seagate drive before with a rs232 cable but never swapped a board. Is it just a matter of switching them and powering up or are there other steps.
Thanks in advance,
Dan
