Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

All,
Same question as in the subject line - does anyone know if there is a difference in AS/ASG Seagate drives as far as head compatibility is concerned? Having trouble locating a donor matching the full (*ASG) model, but there is a decent amount of *AS drives that should be good to swap with.
Thanks,
Dizi

Your best bet is to contact Eric Lee on this forum to see if he has compaitible heads or you can contact donordrives.com. They will also check the headmap on the donor to confirm it matches (assuming you have a PC3000 UDMA, Atola or SD tool to check the patient drives headmap)

ASG has free fall sensor, AS doesn't. Makes no difference for recovery process

Thank you Doomer. So would a headswap work across the two, or is the sensor actually built onto the heads assembly (I've never been shown the sensor itself, so I admittedly don't know where it is located).

Sensor is on PCB. Sensor is not related to heads
