I am attempting to rebuild a 3 disk RAID 5 that was originally built on an HP SmartArray E200 Controller. All 3 disks are believed to be valid, but the logical disk was lost. I am primarily using r-studio for recovery, but am having trouble determining all of the array parameters.

I have been heavily referencing this post (raid5-smart-array-e200-failed-drive-t17766-20.html) but it was left seemingly unresolved and indefinite. I am hoping that I can receive some guidance regarding this recovery.

I am fairly certain that the block size is a default 64KB but am having a difficult time ascertaining the block ordering. I have had some, but limited, success with recovering files but would like to see if there is anything further that can be recovered.

It usually finds the correct parameters.

Thanks for the PMs and responses everyone. I believe that I was able to determine the parameters, as everything seems to be lining up properly when I put the three drives together in a virtual array within R-Studio.

The parameters ended up being:
Stripe Size: 128 Sectors (64KB)
Parity Delay: 16
Offset: 0

I have been able to successfully recover a significant number of files, but yet several seem to be getting recovered incorrectly. My thought is that severe disk fragmentation is hindering a full recovery. If anyone has any thoughts on the best method for recovering at this point, I would be happy to listen, but I think my original question has been cleared up. Thanks again!

If the filesystem recovery was correct, then any fragmentation would be a non-issue.

IMHO, for typical issues on a 3-disk RAID 5, it doesn't make sense for:


... so I suggest questioning that initial assumption.

One of the 3 drives can be out of sync. May have to leave out.

Yes, that's exactly why I suggested the OP to question the initial starting point that all 3 drives were valid, as was stated earlier.
