Here's my problem I own a Panasonic DVD Recorder that had a 250GB HDD,
the HDD broke (it's clicking), I bought a replacement HDD of the same make and model
and only made one month difference between them (Dec 2009 instead of Jan 2010) ,
anyway the DVD recorder won't format this new HDD
b.c as I was told by Panasonic the HDD they use has a different Firmware (special firmware just for their dvd recorders)
different from the ordinary the stock model HDD.

Panasonic wants over $100 for the new HDD (the stock model only cost around $40)
anyway is there an easy cheap way to transfer the Firmware
from the Broken HDD to a Working one?, before I pay so much for a new Panasonic spare part HDD?

No there isn't if this is the scenario. And if they use a particular FW there is a reason.

It will cost you more to transfer Firmware from broken drive, if its necessary.
Probably have to format new drive to your DVD Recorder specs .

Well, I think the hdd inside is NORMAL hdd with ONLY partition issue
the reason am telling you this is I DO HAVE ONE already and saw it

1st. try to use any normal HDD inside and use the screen menu to format it, and IT SHOULD WORK

about your defected hdd, if you needed your DATA, then you will need to seek a pro. to get it for u my friend

good luck

That was true with the older models but the newer models (DMR-EH59, DMR-EH69, DMR-EX78, etc)
won't format new HDDs unless they have the special code in their firmware (which only Panasonic sells).

Also the Newer Models use SATA and not PATA HDDs now.
