Hi guys , hope someone can help me.

i recently replaced my laptop screen , with out any issues. however, on the initial boot up after replacement, i get prompted for a password

i've never set a password on the drive so i don't know where it came from.

i've contacted WD and Acer (laptop) both who say they do not place passwords into the firmware.

any ideas how to get around this ?

It 's the first time I hear that replacing a monitor would set up a password in hard drive

Did you replace the monitor yourself? Or did you have it repaired by some Repair-shop?

Looks like HDD is locked. On eome ACER laptop here if there is a problem in the OS and HDD is not shut down right I have seen a few lock up around here. Not saying this one is what happened to you.

Might want to pull the HDD out of here and check it on another computer to see if you can get into this one. See what another systems says on it.

If you still have locked issues this is a lock on the HDD then you need some help to unlock this with professional tools and from a DR company.

If it is not locked when you open it then it is in the laptop and you can search to find the way to reset the laptop. Acer had some ways on older models and I have reset some of them after tearing apart the laptop to get to the MB on this one.

Duh, I would have bought your drive if you had it for throw-away.
