Hello,

I have a Samsung HD501LJ in for recovery, which after testing on the PC3K and speaking to Ace Labs, has been diagnosed as faulty heads. The HDD is clicking when powering up, and eventually spinning down. The SA can be read, and I have managed to pull some smaller files from the drive using DE, but larger files fail.

I have a donor for the head swap, but after checking on the Head Stack Replacement article on here, it may not be compatible. I just wanted to check, as I realise the document was written in 2006, so is it still relevant for modern drives?

My faulty drive is:

Samsung HD501LJ/D (DP/N 0DN133) F/W:CR100-12 Family: T166 Made in Korea.

My donor is:

Samsung HD501LJ (DP/N 0DN133) F/W:CR100-10 Family: T166 Made in Korea.

If I follow the guidelines on the article, there is a mis-match in the 4th digit of the long number printed on the PCB. Does this still matter, as everything else matches apart from the firmware, which I have been told isn't as relevant in Samsung drives as it is in Western Digitals.
